Armed police have tonight arrested a person who was holding a sawn-off shotgun after a three-hour siege at a bookmakers which concerned 4 hostages.

The home windows of the betting store have been coated with newspaper and a police helicopter was circling the realm earlier on Sunday night.

An eyewitness stated that the suspect had put a coat and hat on and tried to depart the store armed with a sawn-off shotgun.
However officers stopped the person from leaving the bookmakers and arrested him and he's now in custody.
Stephen Dixon, 41, of Sunderland, was additionally watching and noticed the incident from the window of a pal's flat which missed the city's Viking Centre.

Mr Dixon stated: 'I'm in a 3rd ground flat. Simply after 6pm I heard shouting exterior, which is uncommon round right here. It's normally fairly quiet.

At about 7.45pm Mr Dixon says a second hostage, an older wanting man carrying a black coat, was launched.

Like the primary hostage, he walked in direction of the police and was taken away.
Mr Dixon added: 'This isn't what you anticipate on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I don't have any clue what could be behind it.

A Northumbria Police spokesman stated: 'Police have introduced the continuing incident on the Jarrow bookmakers to a secure conclusion.
'At eight:44pm police negotiated the secure launch of the fourth individual from contained in the premises, then at eight:53pm the person in possession of the weapon was arrested by officers.
'A firearm has been seized by officers and the 39-year-old man can be taken into police custody.
'A police problem 'much less deadly weapon' was discharged in the course of the incident with a view to convey this matter to secure conclusion - this was the 'photographs' that individuals might have heard.
'No person has been injured in the course of the incident. Enquiries are ongoing and we'll attempt to get the realm again to regular as potential.
