Suspect, 32, is charged with manslaughter after death of 57-year-old prison officer punched on Christmas Eve night out

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the manslaughter of a 57-year-old jail guard who died after being punched whereas celebrating Christmas Eve.

Nick Medlin died within the early hours of Christmas Day and it's understood a single punch broke his jaw and his cranium fractured when he fell to the bottom.

He and Michael Hudson allegedly grew to become concerned in an argument at a pub in Ventnor, Isle of Wight.

Hudson, of no mounted deal with, has been charged with manslaughter and can seem at Portsmouth Magistrates' Courtroom tomorrow.

Two males aged 31 and 26 who had been arrested on suspicion of homicide have been bailed till April 11, 2017 pending additional enquiries.

A press release from Hampshire Constabulary mentioned: 'Detectives investigating the demise of 57 year-old Nick Medlin in Ventnor early on the morning of December 25 have charged a 32 year-old man with manslaughter.

Michael John Hudson of no mounted deal with has been remanded to look at Portsmouth Magistrates Courtroom on Thursday, December 29.' 

The deadly assault occurred on Pier Road in Ventor, Isle of Wight, the place Mr Medlin was from.

'The household needs to thank everybody for his or her variety tributes and ask for privateness to grieve at this very unhappy time.' 

A jail worker posted on the Fb web page, Know The Hazard, that Mr Medlin and his spouse, Dani, moved to the Isle of Wight three years in the past whereas their sons, Joe and Charlie, stayed on the mainland to review.

He states that Mr Medlin joined the jail service on the age of 55 and labored at HMP Parkhurst.

He posted: 'All people cherished Nick Medlin and revered him, and I can say hand on coronary heart he was probably the greatest officers I've ever labored with in over thirty years. A real skilled in each means.'

Pal Terri Thatcher posted: 'My ideas are with Dani Medlin and her boys for the horrible lack of a husband and father, and considered one of our personal within the punk household, whose life was taken in an insane and mindless act of violence within the early hours of Christmas morning.
