A coach filled with passengers tonight plunged into an enormous sinkhole after a busy city excessive avenue was flooded by fast-moving water.

Police described it as a 'main incident' after the street was a 'river', in keeping with locals. 

Twitter person Rebecca Nygren wrote on-line: 'So Lee Excessive Street is a river' and posted an image of the dramatic scenes on the road. 

London Hearth Brigade added: 'We helped passengers off a coach that fell right into a gap brought on by flood water on Lee Excessive Street in Lewisham.

'Please keep away from the world if doable.'

Officers cordoned off the world as crews desperately tried to repair the issue. Scotland Yard stated the street was closed 'and will likely be for a while'.

Thames Water confirmed the water was from a burst fundamental and that it had a group on the scene working to repair the issue.

Householders affected by the flooding got the chance to take momentary shelter on Bonfield Street within the city. 

Lewisham Central Police stated: 'Main Incident declared; a sinkhole has opened on Lee Excessive Rd and the world is closely flooded. Street closures in place. Keep away from the world.'
